Meet the Team

General Practice

The Forest Lakes Medical Centre was established by Dr Hamza Amira in 1989. It was relocated to the current address and the new building opened on the 11th November 1996. As the Practice has grown, the building has been extended to accommodate more doctors and reception staff.

In October 2009 building commenced on the extensions for new doctor’s rooms and a new upstairs staff room. The extensions were completed in late January 2010 and the clinic opened on Monday the 8th February 2010.

Adjacent to the clinic was a small house which has been converted into a double story building that was completed in 2017 named building B which has a Dentist, Chiropractor and a Clinical Laboratory. Another addition is building C which sits in front of building B which holds the Physiotherapist. The buildings are encircled by a one-way drive through car park.

Dr Hamza Amira graduated in Egypt in 1982 and moved to Perth in 1983. He established Forest Lakes Medical Centre in 1991.

Interests include Women’s Health and Antenatal Care, Child Health, Adult General Medicine, Mental Health, Workers Compensation and Motor Vehicle Accident, treatment and rehabilitation, as well as sport and industrial medicine and rehabilitation.

Dr Ilham Al-Hakeem

General Practitioner, Female, MD, AMC, FRACGP

Dr Ilham Al-Hakeem has extensive clinical experience in personalised family healthcare. She has special interest in woman, children and internal medicine. and has over 30 years’ experience in all aspects of general practice.
She has a passion for primary health care with a focus on comprehensive care for your family. Her interests include Women’s Health, with her long experience in obstetric gynaecology, as well as Child Health, Immunisations, Mental Health, Chronic Disease Management and removal of Mirena.

Dr Jennifer Smith

General Practitioner, Female, MBBS, FRACGP, Dip of Child Health (WA)

Special Interests: 
Women’s Health & Paediatrics, Competent in the Insertion & Removal of Implanon

Dr Jenny Smith is a graduate of UWA and has been a GP at Forest Lakes Medical Centre since 2003. She covers all aspects of general practice, with a particular interest in women’s and children’s health. Dr Smith is also very involved in the education of medical students and GP registrars.

When not working, she is busy raising four children.

Dr Gopal Sankaran

General Practitioner, Male, FRACGP, MBBS

Special Interests: 
Adult and General Medicine, Minor Surgical Procedures and Emergency Medicine

Originally from India, Gopal finished medical school in 2002, working in tertiary hospitals in South India and the UK before coming to Perth in 2006.

He gained his experience in various specialties in all referral hospitals in Perth, including many years in Emergency Medicine.

He moved to the specialist area of general practice in order to spend more time with his family.

Dr Amira Hafez Sobhy

Dr Sobhy has 7 years of experience in the general practice speciality.

Dr Sobhy also worked in the rural and remote areas, received training in Paediatrics health, women’s health and mental health and has finished her advanced skin cancer training.

Dr Liaqat Ali

General Practitioner, Male

Special Interests:
Men’s health, Mental health, Child & Adolescent Health, Cardiovascular disease

Dr Ali received his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (Honours) in 2011.

Dr Ali has gained invaluable experience by practicing in Geraldton and various hospitals.

He is a dedicated male General Practitioner (GP) with a drive to provide a high quality of healthcare to his patients.

Dr Ali has a deep knowledge and understanding of Pediatric medicine ensuring children receive essential care.

The Forest Lakes Medical Centre is an independent, practitioner owned Medical Centre, which was established by Dr Hamza Amira in 1991.

The practice has grown over the years to accommodate more services and staff. There are three buildings on the site, with Allied Health Professionals,  Clinical Labs Pathology and Enhance Physiotherapy.
